It’s Installed!

Printer with bulk system installedThe instructions said 30 minutes. Took more like an hour and a half, but the Lyson bulk ink system is now installed on my Epson R2400. The lid does close but I’ve left it open on this picture to show how it fits in. The instructions were pretty clear and the process isn’t difficult, just long-winded and slow.

When it came to doing the nozzle checks and cleaning I thought that I’d installed it incorrectly as it took about 12 cleans and checks before I got a good nozzle check print. The instructions said it should only take 4-5 but that wasn’t how it went for me.

Test printI’ve done my first print out to compare colour between the original Epson Ultrachrome K3 inks and these Lyson Photochrome R24 inks and the results are pretty good. I was always aware that I’d need to tweak my printer profiles to get output that matched the colour of the Epson inks and the bulk system comes with a really helpful CD with sample profiles and tips to help get you going. If you click the test print image on the right you’ll instantly see that the yellow balance will need altering but, apart from that, the results are pretty well matched to the original Epson inks.

With some tweaking I think I’ll be able to match the output to the original inks, so so far so good!

I miss my A3 printer, saving up for one of those!!

Kala, I haven’t actually printed anything bigger than A4 yet on it. When I was deciding what printer to get I decided to get an A3 because I’ll end up wanting to print bigger at some point. Underneath you’ll also see my Epson A3 scanner as well – the scan quality is brilliant :)

Sian, these R2400’s are fantastic, best printer I’ve ever owned.

ohh my man creature has just got himself one of these printers I think…

I’m going to point him at your site because I’m terribly afraid of the printer and the cussing that it will no doubt bring about when he fiddles with it.

congrats on getting it together, instructions always lie about how long it takes to put something together lol.
*I am really jealous of that scanner*

Heheh my Dad is so afraid of the ink in his printer getting clogged that he prints off a test page every day. When he goes away I now not only have to look after the cat, but also the printer. The printer instructions are 100x more complex than those for the cat.. lol.. dunno why I felt I had to share that with you

i have yet to see a perfect comaptible print compared to using the Epson original inkjet or laser ink cartidge, particulrly when you are using the Epson paper i think they are way off the mark except for plain text printing where you can get away with it. I would be interested to see how good you can get it though, not a bad effort so far.

Hi “Clive”, thanks for the post (and your promotion of your site selling Epson products, no less!) To be frank I don’t use Epson’s own papers, I prefer to use other brands. This Lyson bulk ink system produces prints that are fantastic now I have my ICC profiles sorted out. In fact, if anything, the print quality is better than I was getting with the Epson K3 inks.
